Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-guri Ink (Wild Chestnut) on drawing paper
42 x 59.4 cm
Created with ink I bought in Bali during my South Asia trip during the second half of 2019. The artwork is also inspired by the reverence and connection to animals that I witnessed in the Balinese culture, but showing animals I associate with our South African landscapes. These animals each have their own symbolism of course, but within the context and my intention for this artwork they symbolize strength, instinct, ferocity, freedom and the the cycle of life, death and rebirth.
